Life Insurance Policies
Accelerated Death Benefit – An Accelerated Death Benefit (ADB) is a benefit that can be added to your life insurance policy. It can provide cash advances against your death benefit while you are still alive. You can use this benefit if you have a terminal illness or need permanent care in a supportive assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing community. There might be spending limits (caps) on ADB policies.
Life Settlement – A life settlement is the sale of an existing life insurance policy to a third party for more than its cash surrender value, but less than its net death benefit.
Long-Term Care Insurance
This type of private insurance policy can help pay for many types of long-term care, including both skilled and non-skilled care. Long-term care insurance coverage can vary widely. Some may include coverage for a whole rang of services like care in Assisted Living and medical equipment. Eligibility and premiums are generally based on the age and health of the insured.
Tax Deductions
Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), there are multiple tax credits and deductions available to seniors, the elderly and their families and caregivers. Most costs associated with medical care, assisted living, prescription drugs and medical equipment and supplies are deductible through various state and federal tax credits or deductions.
